National Security Challenges Posed by China's Rise

China’s rise—its growing military and economic capabilities—presents the United States with a variety of policy challenges. What are the key choices facing the United States and how should we analyze them? This talk will describe the role of international relations theory in addressing these questions and explore how uncertainty about China's goals requires the United States to design a mix of competitive and cooperative policies.
