Alumni Update: Sheya Jabouin '15

I graduated from Dartmouth College in 2015 with a B.A. in Government and French. Prior to attending law school, I served as a paralegal at the Federal Trade Commission for the Bureau of Consumer Protection, and in the office of both Commissioner Terrell McSweeny and Commissioner Rohit Chopra. As a law student, I served as a research assistant to Professor Spencer Overton, working on issues related to voting rights and online misinformation. I also served as a student attorney for the Rising for Justice Clinic housed in the Landlord & Tenant Branch of the DC Superior Court. My proudest accomplishment to date was winning the ABA Antitrust Law Section's Privacy and Information Security Committee's 2021 Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Writing Competition for Young Lawyers for my student note on the use of export controls to stifle the threat of "digital authoritarianism," which is the use and supply of information technology to enhance systems of surveillance and social control. All these experiences collectively prepared me for my current position as a first-year associate in the New York office of O'Melveny & Myers LLP.

I would not be where I am today without the support of Dartmouth's Department of Government. To acknowledge a few of my many professors, Professor Lisa Baldez encouraged me to pursue my passion for research and writing and Professor Sonu Bedi taught me to read case law against the backdrop of competing theories of constitutional interpretation. The professors who make up the Department of Government at Dartmouth are brilliant and passionate about what they do and I strive to embody that education wherever my career takes me.
