Shane Burke is a journalist covering policy, demographics and culture. He combines data analysis and narrative reporting to shed light on pressing issues and trends. Born in New York, Burke studied Government at Dartmouth College and recently received a Master's in Data Journalism from Columbia University. As a government major at Dartmouth, he took courses on American politics and completed an internship with the White House's Office of Correspondence in 2014. After college, he spent four years as a manager at a market research firm in New York before returning to school to pursue data journalism at Columbia Journalism School. He currently writes about demographics and the census for the Salt Lake Tribune, and will spend some time next year covering HIV/AIDS public health interventions in South Africa as a Pulitzer Center reporting fellow. In his free time, he rock climbs and pretends he's a music critic.
