Alumni Update: Alison B. Miller '10

Alison Miller graduated from Dartmouth in 2010 with a double major in Government and History and has since pursued a career in complex commercial litigation.  Following Dartmouth, Alison attended law school at Georgetown.  She then spent five years as an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP and a clerk on the Southern District of New York.  In 2019, Alison joined Holwell Shuster & Goldberg LLP, a litigation boutique founded in 2012 by a former federal judge and his former law firm colleagues.

Alison maintains a broad practice representing companies in business disputes cutting across all manner of legal subject areas and industries.  She enjoys fast-paced matters in which litigation occurs in the context of a business deal, such exiting an investment, restructuring a partnership, or ensuring a deal goes through.  Alison is also interested in litigation risk advising, particularly in the venture capital, fintech, and SPAC spaces.  Alison additionally has an active pro bono practice.  She recently filed two amicus briefs in the Supreme Court, one on behalf of law professors identifying the procedural due process implications of upholding Texas S.B. 8, the six-week "heartbeat" abortion statute; and another on behalf of former judges and prosecutors in a matter involving juror racial bias.

Alison's experience studying Government at Dartmouth prepared her well for her legal career.   In the flexibility of the Government major, Alison found a home for her curiosity to delve into new areas each term, much like a litigator coming onto a case must quickly become savvy on both the law and the facts.  The Government FSP at the London School of Economics was particularly formative in shaping Alison's analytic and writing skills.  She recalls researching and writing lengthy term papers at the LSE library, many days capped off with a drink at the campus pub discussing each others' theses and swapping writing tips.  Lastly, Alison credits the Rockefeller Leadership Fellows Program run by Sadhana Hall with fostering a lifelong love of big ideas and group collaboration.

Alison is always happy to connect with Dartmouth students exploring an interest in law.
