Dartmouth's mission is to facilitate “vigorous and open debate of ideas within a community marked by mutual respect.” Within this framework, what is the role of the First Amendment? This event is designed to give scholars, faculty, and students a space to discuss what free speech is and to help work through what it does and does not protect. The event will also address institutional neutrality and the difference between public and private speech.
