Alumni Update: Jordan Are '15

I graduated from Dartmouth in 2015 with a B.A in Government. Following graduation, I worked in the Fixed Income Sales and Trading Group at Morgan Stanley in New York. After five years at Morgan Stanley, I decided to pursue my MBA and returned to Houston, TX to attend Rice University – Jones Graduate School of Business. At Rice, I am Co-President of the Finance Association, the campus's second largest student-run organization. I am also a Board Fellow, a Rice-led organization that selects student leaders to serve as non-voting members of local non-profit organizations. After graduating from Rice Business, I will begin my career at Goldman Sachs in the Natural Resources Investment Banking Group in Houston. My proudest achievement to date has been balancing the roles of father, husband, and student leader on campus.

Dartmouth's government department provided me with the frameworks I needed to approach real-world problems with a critical and global mindset. This was extremely useful in my sales and trading role when considering the implications of geopolitical events on global markets. It's also a big part of my new job as an investment banker in the energy industry. The energy industry is dynamic and intricately linked to international relations, government, and political/economic initiatives. My overall Dartmouth experience has greatly benefited my network, career, and long-lasting friendships.
